Hand-Carved Picture Frames: My frames feature solid wood construction, internal wooden splined corners, carved ornament and designs, finished with a variety of techniques, including traditional gilding.
Period Frame Restoration: I can bring to life old, damaged and mistreated picture frames by re-creating ornaments using molds or carving by hand. After repairing the missing composition, I gild and tone to match the existing finish. I can also reduce the size of existing antique frames to fit your particular artwork.
Period Frame Reproductions: I can re-create a frame from any time period to match an existing frame or to create a feel for an era. I have reproduced frames from the Chippendale, Victorian, Gothic, and Edwardian periods. I have done many period frames for early Canadian art, including the Group of Seven and Emily Carr.
Modern Decorative Picture Frames: Each frame is designed to highlight elements of a piece based on shape, colour and form. The frame thus acts as an extension of the work of art.
Mirror Frames: Mirror frames come in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs suitable for entry ways, above mantles and in powder rooms. Traditional water gilding using 23K gold or sterling silver leaf provides a highly reflective appearance that is precious and decorative for any room of the house. I specialize in bulls-eye mirror frames whose convex glass draws light thus working well in hallways and other dark spaces. Choose from available samples or have one specially designed for your particular space.
Other Fine Woodwork Creations: I have done many interesting carving projects, including animal heads for gilded wooden bedposts, decorative lathed finials for curtain rods, and stools for needlepoint creation. Talk to me about any idea you have for a fine woodwork project.
