Lawren Harris is often considered the major force behind the Group of Seven, a mid-century Canadian artistic group who used landscapes as a their most frequent subject. Harris’ abstract imagery didn’t catch collectors’ attention until much later on. Complementing his composition with a simple off-white frame with no gilded element is intended to help bring the viewer’s eye to the depth of the abstraction.
